My Quest To Happiness

Adelaide Brockway

First let me start off by introducing myself, my name is Adelaide Brockway and I am a young mom originally from a small town in Ohio. Four years ago I moved to Provo Utah to go to school at Brigham Young University. I married my High School sweetheart, Jacob Brockway, in November of 2019. Just a little over a year later I gave birth to my darling daughter Lillian. We are a young family and we are still learning how to navigate through the rough sea that is life. But hey, aren't we all?

Hey That's me!

My Realization

Over the past few years I have come to learn how difficult it is to find happiness in everyday life. Soon after I packed up all of my belongings and moved to Utah to attend school I had some life changing, heart shattering, earth breaking things happen to myself and my family. My family's restaurant was robbed and my parents decided to close their doors permanently. My family was hurting and there was nothing that I could do to help. The point is that we all have things happen in our lives that we might not be able to fully control and it may cause us pain and heartbreak. This isn't a pity party for me though. I have worked hard to move on and overcome those challenges, but ever since then it has become increasingly more difficult for me to be simply happy. Isn't that an interesting thought though. The phrase "simply happy" makes it seem as if being happy is the easiest thing in the world. The truth is that it isn't, but we can all strive to be happier. Some of us might need to work on being happier everyday. We all deal with individual struggles and daily hardships. That can really weigh down on you if you don't have a way to release the stress. However, finding that thing to lighten the load of your anger and sorrow isn't an easy task to take on. For some it may be working out, cooking, painting, watching tv, taking a nap, snuggling up with a good book, spending time with your family, or doing nothing at all! For others it might be harder to find what brings you joy. Whatever you discover makes you happy, should become a priority in your life.

The Goal

I too am working towards that goal of happiness. Does that mean that we will always be happy and we will never be sad or have a bad day? Heck No! We are all human and having different emotions is part of that. Our goal shouldn't be to become an empty shell on the inside as long as we seem to be perfect on the outside for others. This isn't about anyone else but you. The importance of this journey towards being simply happier is that we come to love ourselves and uplift others while bring joy to the world. We have to be the ones that take control of our own lives. No one can do that for you. We can all support one another, but in the end it's each one of us individually that have to make the decision to find joy. This mundane world is just that, mundane, but only if you let it be. There is beauty all around and we have to find what makes our heart leap. It is my goal to find the things in my life that make my heart do just that, and then share it with my friends and family. Along my path to happiness I hope to inspire others to make a choice to be simply happier.
