Citrus Exfoliating Scrub DIY

Updated: Dec 9, 2022

Today I’m sharing a DIY for this easy, simple, and inexpensive citrus body and face exfoliator made with baking soda. It would make a great party favor or gift for girlfriends.

I’ve been looking for special inexpensive ways to treat myself and unwind recently. A warm bath with fruity bath salts is a favorite. I also love a good clay masque. This super easy citrus exfoliating scrub is also a great one.

Have you ever used baking soda as an exfoliator?? I whipped up these SUPER easy DIY exfoliators in about 2 minutes (literally) using baking soda, coconut oil, and a drop or two of essential oils. Guys, these would make such an easy (and inexpensive) gift for friends over the holidays or just a good way to get in some me-time.

Benefits of baking soda as an exfoliator

Baking soda is made up of fine particles that act as a physical exfoliator, removing dead skin and dirt from your skin. The alkaline nature of baking soda also remans it neutralizes the acid on the surface of the skin, effectively removing oil and grime. It unclogs your pores and leaves your skin feeling super clean.

Baking soda is used in lots of beauty products but you can make your own baking soda exfoliator for face or body at home, likely with things you have on hand.

Bonus tip: If you have a gentle cleanser you use daily, add a bit of baking soda to it once a week to exfoliate and you won’t ever have to have two cleansers again.

Ingredients for Simple Citrus Exfoliating Scrub

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil

  • 1/8 cup baking soda

  • 2 drops of essential oil of your choice

  • 1 container

You can use it as a face or body exfoliator – the coconut oil is really hydrating and the baking soda is a gentle exfoliant so it leaves your skin super soft. This would make a really cute, and VERY inexpensive gift for girlfriends (or party favor). You can order little containers in bulk on amazon (this set would be perfect especially if you’re making them in bulk).
